The Heart Reset

I’d like to share a simple process you can use whenever you feel lost, overwhelmed, or disconnected. It’s something I use regularly to reset myself and connect to my heart.

This process can take from a few minutes to longer according to what you need. And it’s one of the most powerful ways I have found to reconnect with my inner wisdom.

Here are the 5 steps:

1. Connect to your heart

Start by putting a hand on your heart. This way, you can make physical contact with your heart center. It is very helpful if you have trouble feeling your emotions and you need to come back into your body.

2. Slow down your breathing

Then, start to slow down the rhythm of your breathing, especially if you are feeling very agitated. You can try taking 5 seconds to inhale and 5 seconds to exhale. Find what feels natural for your body and your nervous system. Just make sure that you breathe in through your nose and into the belly.

3. Feel and listen

Now, bring your awareness to the feelings in your body. Locate them and try to observe what is happening inside of you. You can simply note the sensations and emotions as you notice them. The first step to change is to become conscious of our present reality. And as you feel, listen to what these emotions are telling you.

4. Accept and allow

Here comes the hardest part. The healthy way to deal with emotions or difficult situations in our life is to fully accept them. When we hold judgments about ourselves and how we feel, we only perpetuate our own cycle of suffering.

But when we embrace and allow our emotions to be, they lose their power over us. From this place, we can choose what is best for us in our life. But first, we need to break out of our own reactivity and become responsible for the way we feel.

5. Ask for guidance

This part is my favorite. Once you have grounded yourself in your heart, simply ask, “What do I need right now?” or “What does my soul need?” and listen to what comes to you. You will always receive kind words of love and wisdom to handle your situation. Anything other than that is your mind and ego talking to you.

By asking this question through your heart, you connect to your deepest source of knowing, your intuition. You are able to tap into your Higher Self and know what is really best for you.

You can also ask other questions like “What do I need to know today?” or “What would love do?” There is no limit here. However, I recommend that you write down the answers so that you don't forget them later on.

All these steps work together in a unified flow. But it’s not as simple as moving from one step to the other and moving on. It’s about learning to slow down and go within.

This process has done magic in my life and has taught me how to quickly connect to the wisdom of my heart.

Next time you are in a situation where you feel lost or overwhelmed, try this out, and see if it works for you.
